The Brunger Lab at Vanderbilt University develops and deploys synthetic biology tools to control stem cells for regenerative engineering and in vitro disease modeling. Projects include development of stem cell-based therapeutics for musculoskeletal, autoimmune, and neurodegenerative diseases; creation of high fidelity models of neurodegenerative diseases via gene editing and rewired signaling modules in pluripotent stem cells; and engineering cells to interface with biomaterials through artificial gene circuits.
